Myron Eshowsky, M.S.(Counseling), is an author, mediator, consultant, shamanic healer, and educator. He is a pioneer in the integration of shamanic methodology  for the purpose of addressing modern problems. He has authored dozens of articles on these topics in a wide range of journals and the highly acclaimed, Peace with Cancer: Shamanism as a Spiritual Approach to Healing. For the last two decades, he has studied extensively how cultures throughout the world view and address conflict. He has consulted and taught throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.  A few highlights of his work include:

1971-1972
Established first legal advocacy organization for migrant workers in Indiana and helped successfully lobby for legislation protecting migrant workers and their families as well as providing necessary health and educational services.

1979
Presentation at National Institute of Mental Health national conference at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois. “Schizophrenics as Counselors/Paraprofessionals in Community Mental Health Setting: Pioneer project in patient rights and self help”.

1980
Presentation at National Institute of Mental Health Conference, Washington University, St.Louis, Missouri. “Patient directed Crisis Intervention program: Reducing dependency on community resources.” Worked further in the 1980’s to develop a model to train chronic mental patients to provide counseling and case management services for each other. The program improved well being and reduced demand for services, as well as, psychiatric medications.

Presentation at International Humanistic Psychology Conference, Washington, D.C. “Humanistic and Spiritual approaches to healing in mental illness.”

1987-1994
Madison, WI
Provided shamanic healing services and training throughout a large community mental health center addressing a wide range of populations.

1993
Chosen to be the first shamanic healer in the United States to offer spiritual healing services to a health insurance plan. Program showed significant reductions in payout for patient care which were documented in human resources journals.

1994
Presentation at International Transpersonal Psychology Conference, Carmel, CA. “Shamanic Approaches to healing trauma and mental illness”.

1994
Moral Development project with gangs throughout the U.S., sponsored indirectly through Americorps, utilizing shamanic healing and indigenous peacemaking to prevent gang violence in urban centers. Led interventions to help communities address the underlying trauma contributing to gang behavior and involvement in the criminal justice system. Additionally, he has developed culturally appropriate programs in prisons to address these issues.

1997
Headline speaker for Humanistic Psychology Conference, Indianapolis, IN. “Soul Works” with Tizrah Firestone, Robert Moore, Steve Olweaan and Neal Douglass Klotz.

2002-2006
Teachings at the International Conference on Conflict Resolution and War Trauma in St. Petersburg, Russia. Presenter/panelist on a range of topics including indigenous approaches to peacemaking and spirituality, healing PTSD, healing hate crimes, shamanic approaches to healing and peacemaking, and Embracing the Enemy. Conference attended by first responders throughout the world including participants from Rwanda, the Balkans, U.S., Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Russia, China, Japan, and South Africa. His workshops were highly regarded for their creativity and unique approach to addressing issues in conflict resolution.

March 2010
Presentation at the Religion, Violence and Conflict Conference in Detroit, MI, on School Bullying and Prevention, and Indigenous Viewpoints to religion and violence. Mediated discussion on family trauma between a Holocaust Survivor and a Palestinian displaced into camps during the 1948 war.
